Images in Glass, Light and Colour

This study is designed to look at the stained glass of the Middle Ages and early Modern era from a medial perspective. As part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) project "Mediality – Historical Perspectives", the research focuses on stained glass windows as a medial form, and investigates their integration in ritual and social practices. One part of the study will analyse the images of saints in stained glass, while a second part will explore the images of donors and their coats of arms. In both cases, the materiality of the glass, its effect and its perception by contemporary observers form the focus of the analysis.

Part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) project "Mediality – Historical Perspectives".
